Question

Answer

Who accredits the degrees?

The degrees are awarded by Morling College Ltd. Southland College is a wholly owned subsidiary and teaching agent of Morling College Ltd. The degrees are accredited by the NSW Department of Education and Training and are nationally recognised. The Public Register of NSW Higher Education Providers is accessible at  https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/what-we-offer/higher-education-services/.
Search for Morling College Ltd in the NSW Register of Higher Education Institutions.
The Grad Dip Ed/Master of Teaching (Secondary) are also listed on the NSW Institute of Teachers website as recognized providers of approved programs at
http://www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au/Initial-Teacher-Education/Approved-Programs/

Please note that while the courses are nationally accredited as approved Higher Education courses, each state has different regulations concerning teacher registration. Completion of a Morling/Southland College course does not guarantee teacher registration in your state. Please contact the appropriate state authority before enrolling for advice.

How soon can I get the materials to start studying?

Most materials are available on line at least two weeks prior to the start of semester. However, students must already be enrolled before obtaining access to the materials.

How can I expedite my application? Please ensure that you send certified copies of your qualifications together with your application form to the College. If you apply on-line you still need to send certified copies of your qualifications.

Payment An invoice will be sent at the beginning of semester and payment should be made within two weeks of receiving the materials.  Failure to pay your account  by the due date may result in removal from the unit.

Assignments These are to be emailed directly to the lecturer and a copy emailed to our office. Details of how to do this are included in our Student Handbook as well as the unit materials.

Are there any exams?

The only unit  that has an exam is ED 540/407

How long does it take to complete the course?

The Master’s course can take between two and a half to five years to complete. Most students complete it in four years by doing one unit a semester (2 units per year).  However three semesters are available throughout the year so you can finish it sooner.

The BEd (Conversion) & Post-Graduate Diploma courses can take between one to three years to complete. Most students complete the BEd course in two years by doing one unit a semester (3 units per year)

How much time does a unit take to complete? A unit will take one semester to complete. A semester is 16 weeks for Grad Dip Ed/Master of Teaching (Secondary) and 13 weeks for other courses. The number of sessions in a particular unit varies but on an average there are 10 sessions per unit and two assignments for the Grad Dip Ed/Master of Teaching (secondary) and  three assignments for the other courses. It is up to the individual student how much time they spend on their studies and readings.

How many hours a week should I devote to a unit? If you devoted two evenings (2 - 3 hours per evening) a week to the material and part of your Saturday (3 - 4 hours say) that should enable you to cover the material and write the assignments comfortably. However, you may want to spend more time to achieve higher grades.
