STEVEN'S REVIEW Dr Steve Fyson is an educational and community psychologist and educator who writes to reflect on issues of 2004 Articles: This review looks at public and private funding in the context of the coming election and considers a system where any child in Australia, regardless of background or belief, has a guaranteed government minimum contribution to her/his education. 2003 Articles: What makes a student's experiences holistic? This review considers the critical impact on learning that student involvement in missions can have. It asks whether offers of such experiences can be an optional part of a Christian education programme, or whether they need to be a core part of whole school development. Why being a Christ-like Manager makes sense? This article explores the core tension that any manager faces - that of helping the people he or she manages, whilst trying to achieve the desired goals of the community/organisation. It suggests that understanding some key principles of Jesus' life and teaching helps in this endeavour, and that this is attested to in history. Why mercy becomes soft, and justice becomes harsh This article reflects on why we are often hurt in Christian community, and why we hurt others. It explores the essential parts of Christian community from a biblical perspective, then looks at how we can often take these good things and misuse them. The misunderstood ideal of servant leadership This reflection tests out the meaning of ‘servant leadership’, and how its common uses may or may not be compatible with the contemporary mindset of tolerance, peace and egalitarianism. A leader as a listener is an alternative metaphor that is recommended for consideration |
